Membership Meeting #2

Things from the Past and Things to Come

The SHA General Membership Meeting featured Bonnie Slaton and her husband, Gary, as the guest speakers. Bonnie and a friend, Lynn, rode the Arizona Trail over a span of 5 years, from beginning to end. They traveled 833 miles and never used a pack animal. Bonnie showed some marvelous slides of various segment trips and explained their strategies and planning they utilized to make this dream become a reality. Bonnie also brought some of her equipment with her so we could all see what she packed on her horse and how she made camp for her and her horse. There were 52 members there to listen to this interesting presentation and afterwards, SHA presented Bonnie and Gary with a $50 gift certificate to Chilis and a card for making the trek from Tucson to be with us.

Also recognized for their outstanding work within SHA were Cathy and Bob Diroff, Bev and Ron Dougherty and Connie and Scott Cazier. They were all given cards and $25 Chilis Gift Cards for their outstanding work this year.

Crista Rizzi, AJ Councilwoman, also spoke to the group about making AJ a more friendly horse community on behalf of the horse; therefore, 3×5 cards were passed out to folks to glean their ideas and thoughts about helping AJ become a better horse community.

There were also three door prizes given away and $72 given for the 50/50.

Everyone adjourned to eat refreshments and drink coffee and water.  Bonnie and Gary stayed to answer individual questions.

It was a great evening of comradery and being exposed to new and interesting information. Our next meeting will be about the Arizona Trail. You will not want to miss this informative meeting. Hope to see you there!!
