CITY
The City of Apache Junction passed an ordinance which prohibits parking RV's and trailers in front yards. According to the ordinance, if you park your RV or trailer on the side of the house, you have to build a six-foot solid fence to block the view from the front and side. The City will wait for neighbors to complain before enforcing that part of the ordinance. This ordinance was passed with hardly anyone in attendance at the meeting. For information regarding upcoming Planning and Zoning or City Council meetings and the agenda's for the meetings, or to view past meetings visit www.ajcity.net.
SHA members have been invited to provide input into the city's 2010 General Plan. There are many areas within this plan that may impact area equine owners and those who want the city to maintain trails and a rural way of life. If you would like to be included on an e-mail distribution for upcoming meetings regarding the 2010 General Plan, submit your request to Brenda Cherryholmes at bcherryholmes@ajcity.net

COUNTY
A meeting was held on Thursday, October 8th to discuss the Tonto National Forest access gate at the end of McKellips. It has been proposed that the gate be moved to another location in the area. Bryan Martyn, Pinal County Supervisor for District 2, facilitated the discussion between area neighbors, concerned citizens, Sharon Wallace from the Tonto National Forest and Ray Warriner from the State Parks. The pro's and con's of several forest access scenario's were discussed. The most favored solution by area neighbors is to leave the access as it is but that is a decision to be made by the State Parks as the access currently uses state land. Ray Warriner will take the concerns and proposals discussed at this meeting back to the State Parks for review and a decision. An update regarding the status of this issue will be provided in 30 days to those in attendance that provided e-mail addresses. We will post the information here as well.
